Vă mulțumesc! Da, Hockney este cunoscut mai mult pentru picturile sale, dar colajele sale foto sunt uimitoare. Duminică fericită și vouă! Sper că acest lucru s-a tradus corect.
I love the portrait of that gorilla. Maybe because I love gorillas so much, but it is also very striking and beautifully composed and edited. It shows me that Mark would be very capable of taking interesting portraits of people.
Thank you so much, Manuela! So pleased to hear you like the gorilla photo. His name was Charles and he lived at the Toronto zoo with his harem and several offspring. Sadly, he died last year at the grand old age of 52.
And oh my. That’s awfully kind of you Mark. My work meant so much to me that when everything went haywire in 2020 and I lost my contracts, dove into a depression, I went through this severe time of detaching myself from it. I was hurting so much from what happened in my family, the people I treasured and documented too, that I wanted to throw it all out into the street with me. Since writing and coming back through the grief journey, I now treasure having an archive of which to share and write stories through. Still waiting to do a few different adventures with John and my cameras - which I hope come soon. I’m ready to explore some different landscapes via camping - but for now am continually blessed to visit my elderly mum in Oregon and photograph that beautiful place. John’s not retiring for a few more years. There’s always shadows and light everywhere and that never gets old either. But do I crave the architecture!! I’ve done a lot of L.A., NYC, and I’d do it again - I just travel less these days and driving into L.A. is like Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and I am somewhat over it feeling like I’m going to die. lol. I miss the people and concert coverage.
I can’t begin to imagine how difficult the pandemic years must have been for you. Ours weren’t easy either but nothing like you described. That must have been devastating. Hopefully, lessons have been learned and we don’t have to deal with anything like that in the future. You write with such passion, it must be very cathartic for you and I hope it helps to ease the pain. Cherish those moments with your mum. Sadly, they won’t last forever but the memories will.
I don’t blame you for not wanting to drive in LA, it was bad enough when I was last there in the ‘80s.
Hopefully, you and John get to travel and have some great adventures again soon. Make sure you share the photos on Substack for us all to enjoy.
Thank you Mark. I think everyone in the world went through hard things on different levels. It’s that way without an pandemic. I never thought I would EVER hear myself say it was a gift in the end. So much goodness and growth has come of it. I dug deeper. And I am so blessed. Blessed and grateful to have my mom doing well, and so grateful for my family, which as been putting itself back together with time.
Love this, and the imagery, all three of them. So different. I might like the last one best. Mark, if you find yourself in the DC area I'd be happy to make a "proper profile picture." for you.
I would have thought Mark is has been around longer here! I love the last photograph!
Thanks, Suzanne! Happy to hear you love the last photo. Check out my restack of the interview for more info about it.
I was going to say the same!
Ne plac cam aceiași fotografi (bine, Hockney e mult mai mult pictor decât fotograf). Trebuie să văd mai multe imagini de-ale lui Mark. Duminică faină!

Nice, Mark. You have been a constant since I have been here on Substack, and I really appreciate you and your work. Nicely done!

A lovely interview. That last photo is intriguing - I want to know what is going on!
Thank you very much, Lynn. A lucky shot but one of my favourites.
Great interview. I like Marks work and these are beautiful images - that last shot begs so many questions!
Thank you so much, Lin! I really appreciate your comments. Hopefully, my explanation on my restack of this post answers some of your questions.
Yes thanks Mark - it's no less mysterious for it though!
Mark is one of my faves here on Substack!
Thanks, Clee! You’re one of my favs too, but I think you already know that 😄
I think I do! lol
Another great interview!

This was wonderful to read and always love your images Mark! 🙌🏻
Thanks, Deborah 🙏🙏. As a photographer yourself, you should do one of these interviews too.
