The neighbourghood
“There’s nothing to photograph around me, it’s boring.” “I want to go to big cities like New York, Paris or London, maybe in Asia, places with lots of opportunity for photography.”
At some stage in my life, I was one of the people thinking like this. I have to emphasize on “was” as I’m not that person anymore. Why? Photography thought me to open my eyes. Trust me, there are photo opportunities at every corner, all we have to do is see it. Are you in doubt? Well, here are few examples:
by walking his neighbourghood Wesley Verhoeve was able to collect photos to make a photobook;
Michela Griffith is able to find beauty and interesting images in the moss;
Susanne Helmert has publish zines and presents us beautiful photos every week by looking around while walking the dog;
Ramon Haindl photographs leaves from his own backyard.
Are you attracted to colour? Look around, a colourful wall is all you need.
Are you looking for something more out of the ordinary? How about drains?
Next time when you walk your neighbourhood don’t dream at New York streets but open your eyes and look around you, there’s beauty and photos opportunities at every single step. Just look.

Love this post and the encouragement to look more closely at what we have.
So true. I was unable to go much further than my street for a lot of last year due to a condition and still managed to find things to photograph even just being able to walk a few feet. Somehow the less I could see the more I noticed..
