This is my favorite of the quotes. But then, I have always shared many of his sensibilities!

Love these.

I came here to add the HCB quote but I see Andrew has beaten me to it! So I’ll add one from NJP (me 😉)

"Sharpness is overrated. Emotion, mood, feeling, story - these are the elements that make a photograph memorable.”

Once I started to appreciate blur/lack of focus, I *think* I started to be a (slightly) better photographer :)

What a great perspective to have on sharpness. Thank you. Does it transfer into writing too I wonder?

I think it must! Whether in photography or writing, as art forms - you're trying to avoid errors or flaws which distract, but you're trying to capture emotion and connection and experience without being confined by arbitrary rules or limitations or constructs...

I prefer sharpness. I mostly shoot at a high aperture.

large aperture, small aperture, sharp, out of focus, each one of us is different and that's the beauty of it

That is the beauty for sure.

Perfect. Light. Weston’s and Frank’s quotes are priceless. I also like the Cartier-Bresson quote (via Andrew Eberlin). I now feel more comfortable posting blurry photos photos🤓

This is such a freeing concept. I love to shoot wildlife and I am always looking for the perfect sharp photo of birds, particularly larger birds like raptors that are off in the distance. Because wildlife photographers all go for sharp clear images I feel like it's okay, after reading this, to share my images that aren't sharp and clear.

not all photos have to be sharp but certain photos are better sharp. i mentioned here few times that i photograph rugby matches. all action shots from matches are better sharp than out of focus, that's how i see things and that is how i present them.

I see things very clearly and sharp myself, so the not so sharp is often off putting to me.

well, it's too late to corect them 😁

as i said to Michael Elliott today: 2 of them were intentionally taken like that to create a mood, don't ask about the third one 😉
