industrial #7
Sitting on giant's shoulders (part 2)
First time I’ve heard of Josef Koudelka I was in college studying photography. It was love at first sight. No wonder he’s one of my favourite photographers.
When Koudelka’s name is coming up, first two things coming to people’s minds are documenting Czechoslovakia’s invasion in 1968 and documenting the gypsies around Europe.
But Koudelka also documented the industrial landscape and the effects of industrial revolution.
“Over and above their beauty, these photographs confront the issue of the massive transformation of the landscape brought about the Industrial Revolution.” says Francois Hebel describing Koudelka’s work.
As for the master himself, he is describing his work in a humble way: “I was always trying to find beauty in places where others don’t see it.”

Industrial photos always look good in black and white.
well, depends. some of interior shots are more expressive in colour, i think. environment it's a big factor for industrial photography.
