smoking breaks
Industrial photography is not all about plant and machinery, it can also be about working environment. This post is not a documentary about the smoking in an industrial environment but an idea that a human right (smoking) can be the subject of a documentary in a working place.
Even before the introduction of smoking ban in 2004, some of the building sites were restricting the smoking on their premises for different reasons: explosive environment, quality of products, quality of life for non-smokers and so on. The smokers were allowed to smoke in designated areas and that was OK for everybody. Of course there were complains from both sides but that is not the debate here.
Some people obeyed the rules, others made their own rules. Especially people working “outside” considered that smoking won’t affect anybody as they were in an “open space” were air circulation wasn’t restricted.
