If you are a new subscriber to perfectlight, you might not know that I love a collaboration; “The Sunday interview” series is not included in this category. If you search the archives, you can find all the collaborations but it is worth mentioning that there are a few types and here are some examples:
a) Simona or Linnhe provided the text, I provided the photos;
b) Susanne or Nat provided me with five photos, I tried to match them;
c) for Marcel efforts of building a photographic community, I provided a short essay about one of my projects.
I’ve always encouraged readers to get in touch if they feel like they wanted to do a collaborations, and I’m also open to suggestions. One of those sugestions came from Susanne: to create an in camera double exposure roll of 35mm film. I’m telling you, she didn’t have to ask me twice, I was all in straight away.
The idea is pretty simple: each one of us took photos using a 35mm black&white film, when the film was exposed, we rewind it back into the case and without developing it, we did a swap; then the other person load the film in the camera and re-expose the frames again and only after that the film got developed. Without knowing what other person did, or even how the camera was hold (landscape or portrait), the results were more than interesting and the excitment and expectations went out through the roof.
Not everything run smothly and that is absolutelly normal; for example, we didn’t mark the start of the film so the frames didn’t perfectly aligned. But on the other hand it was part of the exeperience and made things even more interesting. A short note: what you see is the result of Susanne’s first exposure followed by my overlapping.
I let the photos speak but in the meantime I highly recommend to check out Susanne’s post here: https://substack.com/@susannehelmert/p-147610686
