Every time I visit a new place/city, I try as much as possible to visit a cathedral/church. My visit is not a religious one but an admirative one, I am simply fascinated by the time, effort, design and the details put in to building such monuments.
I have shared my destinations of worship and will soon again. I think the architecture and iconography, though religious in origin, transcends religion and enters the secularly spiritual. Meaning, we can find spirit in the human labor and human design of the places themselves, beyond, or in addition to, their creators' original intent.
I am with you. There is the pinnacle of a art, craft and culture in their monuments of worship. Whatever the time, whatever the place, it is whatever a community could afford with the best craftsmen of the time. This is why there is so much to see and so much to appreciate. Nice post!
