These are beautiful - stained glass windows are such fine works of art, so much skill goes into the image and the making. One that stands out for me is a fairly modern one by John Piper of the Tree of Life at St Peters Church in Firle - well worth a visit if you're ever in the south of England.

i'll keep that in mind

Beautiful and colorful windows. (I feel the same as you about visiting religious buildings on my travels to appreciate the art and architecture.)

to me they are as good as any museum

I do exactly the same as you, though I'd say my emotional state is 'fascination'.

that's a good emotion

Such incredible skill. Very few persons today can replicate the building skills of old.

I'm exactly the same – I love older religious buildings for the architecture, symbolism and history, even if I don't ascribe to that particular faith.

Stained glass, especially the older style, is a beautiful addition to any church, and I'm drawn to the stained glass after the grand architecture.

Really interesting set. I like the contrast between the windows on black and white backgrounds. Makes a huge difference!! Cool...

Really nice series! I also always make a point to photograph in cathedrals when traveling, but I’ve never thought about taking individual photos of just the stained glass windows. It’s great how you’ve presented them so we can admire each window’s unique beauty.

thank you! my "workflow" in a church/cathedral is: general photos, architecture, close-ups, windows, organs

Todd Haughton's avatar

OK, now I really feel dumb since it never even occurred to me to have a "workflow" in places like this! Thanks for nudging my brain into gear - maybe I'll have some discipline next time 🤣

you don't have to feel bad, each one of us is different so it is normal to see the same place with different eyes from different perspective. to me organs are as fascinating as church architecture

Yep, I totally agree about everyone seeing things from different perspectives - that’s what keeps it interesting. I’m sure if I had my own “workflow” in churches or cathedrals, I’d focus on different elements and see them differently than other photographers.

Thank you for reminding me that religion has fostered art.
